Today we are in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We left our hotel, in Hoi An, a bit late this morning. Our ride was kind of late so we were late arriving at Danang Airport. But, it was ok because the flight was full anyway and they offered us money and passes to the business lounge if we would take a flight an hour later. No problemo! So we hung out in the Business Lounge for a while and then got our flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
We got to HCMC about 11:30 this morning and got a ride to our hotel. Finally the driver found our hotel and we were off exploring the city. The first place we went was the War Remnants Museum. It was a difficult and moving place to see. They told the story of the Vietnamese Independence from the French and covered the Vietnam War. There were US war vehicles and planes outside the museum and then there were photographs of the war inside the museum. They covered everything from the independence from France to the American war with Vietnam. It was hard to see some of the images. The US dropped about 500,000 tons of bombs during the war and it cost $676,000,000,000. Not to mention all the lives that were lost during the war. That was the worst part. It covered agent orange and the effects of that years after the war. It was a great museum, but difficult at the same time.
After the museum, we walked around HCMC a bit. Saw the cathedral, post office, opera house and the market. After a full day of touring, we grabbed a taxi to a restaurant and had an American meal on our last night in Vietnam. Now, we are back at the hotel and have to get up at 2:00a.m. to leave the hotel by 3:00a.m. to catch our flight at 6:30a.m. I'll leave HCMC at 6:30, fly to Toyko, then Minneapolis, then Madison. It's going to be a long, long day.
So, this is the last blog post of the Great Adventure of 2015. It's been a great trip, and I have had a lot of laughs, some hard times, but mostly good times.
